ORGANIC POTATOES $2,635 ($4.79 per lb.) for 0.14 cents a pound - HERE's HOW - NO DIG POTATO GARDENING!
Your Food Security!
Exotic red, purple and yellow potatoes are one of my favorite foods to eat, but if you go to find them in the store, they are easily $4.79 a pound (if not more in most places).
This year I am trying a totally different approach. In my new book FOOD FOREST BIBLE I included a section on NO DIG GARDENING and if you have ever tilled and mounded to plant potatoes and then dug to harvest said potatoes it is a chore, so NO DIGGING is a game changer. READ ABOUT THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE BOOK I MADE AVAILABLE HERE:
My potato bed (see photos) took about 40 minutes to complete. No digging at all!
Here is how it works:
When you plant this way, you did not dig to plant, so you did not disturb and
discombobulate your soil and its natural goodness, and the decaying straw and grass super nutrients mega pump the process and off to the races the potato growth goes.
Once the plants emerge and get 6 to 8 inches above the straw, then add another layer of straw - this is the strata your potatoes grow in. When you harvest, you get super nice, clean, no scars, and shined potatoes with NO DIGGING AT ALL!
Harvest when ready. Here’s where no-dig is really useful, as you can check the crop without wasting a plant. Just draw back the mulch. If the potatoes are too small, replace the covering carefully and let them grow on a bit longer. You can even harvest some potatoes from a plant and leave the others to grow on.
NOTE: where you may notice a green plant on each end. I stuck in some tomato plants, since you can grow them the same way!
Love this idea!! Thanks!!!
